2 Coffee mocktails for the happily booze free

Espresso Orange with Tonic

espresso poured into a cup of tonic water with an orange slice

Fresh and fabulous for Christmas morning shenanigans perhaps? Big thanks to  @eli_bang for the recipe.

Tip: You’ll want a sweet orange, as the juice balances the bitterness of the coffee.

The ingredients:

  • Ice
  • 2 fresh orange slices
  • 1 part orange juice
  • 1 part espresso shot
  • 2 parts tonic

Iced Avocado Latte

vanilla syrup poured into a cup containing blended avocado with almond milk

Now  Tanner Colson has a leftfield entry that we are curiously drawn to. The avocado adds a super creamy goodness.

Tip: You could use cow or oat milk if you’d rather skip the almond milk.

The ingredients

  • Ice
  • 20 grams vanilla syrup
  • Sliced avocado
  • 1.5 cups almond milk
  • 1 espresso shot

2 Coffee cocktails that embrace the hard stuff

Christmas Coffee Gin Cocktail

It’s a resounding yes from us with this Christmas gin cocktail by local legends Four Pillars Gin. This one’s  topped by festive ground nutmeg.

Tip: Filter coffee works well with this one.

The ingredients

  • 30mL Australian Christmas Gin
  • 100mL coffee, brewed and chilled
  • 10mL Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur
  • 1 bar spoon of honey
  • 30mL cream, fridge cold

Espresso Martini

Melbourne’s  Ginger and Carman may be miffed if we don’t include a recipe for this classic Espresso Martini. You can watch them do their thing  here.

Tip: If you want your pretty little garnish to float on your drink, be sure to make great foam.

The ingredients:

  • Vodka
  • Double shot espresso
  • Coffee liqueur (Kahlua or Baileys)
  • Sugar syrup
  • Coffee beans for garnish

Or make up your own coffee cocktail

Have a play with these, as they each pair rather well with coffee:

  • Amaretto
  • Baileys Irish Cream
  • Vodka
  • Gin
  • Kahlúa
  • Schnapps
  • Hazelnut liqueur
  • Bourbon
  • Tequila (yes, really!)

And you know what they say

Please drink responsibly. Even a hearty pour of tonic with some fresh fruit and a cooled shot of espresso on ice is all kinds of delicious (see visual inspiration in the happy pic at the very top of this blog).
