Origin story
Sítio Três Barras is a coffee estate that stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of coffee cultivation within the Dias family. Nestled at an elevation of 1270 to 1300 meters high, this idyllic farm has a rich history dating back to the 1940s when it was originally owned by Mr. José Caetano Dias.
Recognising the need for sustainability and profitability, the farm joined APROD, a group organisation. In 2012, the estate achieved Fair Trade certification, a recognition of its commitment to agronomic, environmental, and social responsibility. This alignment with Fair Trade principles mirrored the agricultural practices inherited from their grandfather, emphasising environmental care and sustainable production.
Sítio Três Barras recognises its social role within the local community and provides employment opportunities with fair wages and favourable working conditions for its partners and collaborators. The farm's journey into specialty coffee production began in 2015, marked by participation in regional competitions and successful results. A partnership with SMC paved the way for their high-quality coffees to reach international markets.
Harvesting
The dedication to quality starts from careful agronomic management, extends to the meticulous processing, and continues through post-harvest practices. Coffee cherries are harvested at the peak of ripeness, transported daily, and sorted by plot, variety, and harvest time. The primary processing method employed is natural sun-drying, utilising suspended beds to ensure a slow and even drying process.
Looking ahead, Sítio Três Barras is on a mission to bring the concept of "From Seed to Cup" to fruition, intending to make specialty coffee accessible to local consumers. This venture marks yet another chapter in the story of Sítio Três Barras, where a commitment to quality, sustainability, and community stands as the cornerstone of its coffee production legacy.
